The dam at Stanford Hills is delightful and visitors may paddle around in one of the boats.
3. Stony Point Nature Reserve
The African Penguin colony at Stony Point, Betty’s Bay, is the second largest land-based breeding colony in Africa. Penguins are best seen in the late afternoon when they return from their day’s fishing.
4. Harold Porter Botanical Garden
Betty’s Bay showcases over 700 species of indigenous South African plants and 88 species of birds! 10 hectares are immaculately cultivated with wheelchair friendly paths winding between banks of fossil-age plants, wetland and dune displays and cool African montane forests. 6. The Kleinrivier Cheese Farm in Stanford
There is nothing better than having a picnic at Kleinrivier Cheese Farm in Stanford. Take your own picnic or choose from the lovely variety of picnic goodies on sale. Taste cheese, feed the local goats, pigs and chickens and enjoy the beautiful gardens. With a fantastic play area, it's the perfect picnic spot to spend the day. Unfortunately they're closed on Sundays.
8. Old McDaddys
Stay for a couple of days at this nearby attraction in a fabulous trailer or go as a day visitor. While away a couple of hours in the onsite restaurant or buy a activity day pass to experience supping, archery, fat bikes, swimming, hiking and more.
8. Elgin Railway Market
This newly unveiled market in Elgin welcomes a steam train twice a month. An array of delicious food options, arts and crafts ware and live music will keep you entertained on Saturdays and Sundays. The children's area is still being developed and will include a zip line, climbing structure and more fun stuff for the little ones.
9. Peregrine Farm Stall
It's not just the best toilet/pit stop... Peregrine Farm stall is so unique it merits a special trip all of its own to enjoy a leisurely lunch, do a bit of shopping, browse the books at the market and let the kids play to their hearts content at the playpark.
